Palm Coast cyclist Peter Churchill has passed
Palm Coast cyclist Peter Churchill passed away in peace and comfort on Saturday the 14th November. A keen cyclist in his youth, helping to form pioneering clubs VC Aquila and VC Venta in Winchester at a time when cycle sport in England was going through great upheaval.
His retirement to Florida, with flat roads and warm weather enabled him to re-kindle his love for the sport of cycling and he enjoyed riding his road bike and recumbent with his new American cycling friends and his tandem with his wife Gloria.
Memorial service on Friday 20th November at 11:00am. The chapel Visitors entrance Florida Hospital Flagler 60 Memorial Medical Parkway Palm Coast, FL 32164 email his son Paul: paul@pushbike.co.uk for details.

Peter was always asking me about the riding and racing I did in Spain when I was stationed there while in the US Navy. He had traveled a bit and was talking about riding in a “Retro Race” of some kind in Italy. He had asked if I had any old woolen jerseys he could borrow to ride in it. Of course I still do (though none would fit me now) but some would fit him. The “Retro Race” was one in which he had done a lot of research and he was keen on riding it. I spoke with him several times, both on the road and at PC Bike about it.
Peter was always asking about how to make his bike faster – to which James, at PC Bike would reply – “Let me of John ride it.” He would laugh and try to figure out how HE could make it go faster.
Great rider, great father, great husband, great friend. He will be missed.
Peter will be missed by all his cycling friends in Florida.
He always had a great smile and a good word for everyone.
I will miss the pace-line chatter from him, always happy.
He will leave a giant void in our pace-line and in our hearts.
We are all better for his picking Palm Coast as his cycling retirement home.
Thanks Peter.
