The Horrible Hundred Ride Clermont, FL

Make sure you’re signed up for this one. We have a good group already but the more the… Cheryl has a group. John, Rich & Ron have a group. So no excuses lets see a large DBBC ride contingent get out of town and do some hills. It takes about 2 hrs of driving from PC, but it is well worth the drive, just ask anyone who has done it.

Join the Florida Freewheelers in celebrating one of Florida’s oldest continuous rides. The Horrible Hundred event features course options of 35, 70 and 100 miles. Enjoy quiet country roads and true Southern hospitality while tackling Central Florida’s “mountains”. Dance on the tips of your pedals up “Sugarloaf”. Swoop through the descents on “Buckhill”. Suffer the dead-start ascent of “Grassy Lake”. But first you’ve gotta hit “The Wall”. Century riders will confront all seven of Central Florida’s mountains.

Will you survive?

Enjoy a weekend of fun for the entire family at Waterfront Park in downtown Clermont, Florida. Start off Saturday morning with one of several warm up rides led by a local cycling club. We will even have a ride on the South Lake Trail for the entire family. Early registration packet pick up will be open from 10 ’til 7 on Saturday at Waterfront Park.

The Cycling and Fitness Expo will run on Saturday and Sunday. Local bike shops will be there along with major manufacturers. See and test some of the latest equipment. Check out all the new goodies. Check to see if you have won a door prize from one of the booths.

After your ride on Sunday, we will have a catered lunch and a live band for your enjoyment.

Please remember that the Horrible Hundred is a recreational ride and cyclists of all abilities are welcome. Helmets are required and headphones are prohibited, in accordance with Florida law. This is a rain or shine event.

Starting Sunday (Eddy, starting Sunday) the SUN, WED & FRI DBBC rides will start [at all locations] 30 min later than normal. That is correct ALL START times are now 30 min later. This is due to the darkening of the skies resulting in drivers being less attuned to bicycle riders, also allows an extra bit of time in bed… [And remember, DST or Fall back starts Nov. 6th]
Reversion of start times will be announced, stay tuned… Also see Ride Changes & Announcements

Horse Farm Hundred Tour

hope this year we can pull out a record number of riders from the Daytona, Palm Coast & St. Augustine areas. Please wear your DBBC club jersey, St. Aug. Cycling, The Bike Shop or your PCBike team jersey. We can at least start out together, then see what happens, and just ride.

A tour through the picturesque horse farms of northern Marion county.
The century will start at 8:30 am at the Loften High School at 3000 East University Avenue. The Gainesville Police Department will lead out the pace vehicle, followed by hundreds of charging cyclists. Expect cohesive packs for the first 20 miles before the first of the hills take their toll.

The rides proceed through the north Marion County horse farms, past miles of wooden fences surrounding manacured pastures, many with prancing thoroughbreds who will occasionally race you along the fence. Early riders may catch a jockey working out the next triple crown winner on one of the practice race tracks along the route.

The 37th Annual Mount Dora Bicycle Festival will be held October 14, 15, & 16, with registration pick up on Thursday afternoon October 13th. This year’s event promises to be one of the best yet. The Mount Dora Bicycle Festival takes full advantage of the roads and scenery of Lake County, which is recognized as one of the finest locations in the state and the country to ride. It’s no coincidence that collegiate and pro level cyclists and triathletes choose to train here.

a bit. August 27th & 28th, 2011 WAM Events returns to the beach communities of Nocatee in Ponte Vedra for the 4th Annual Nocatee Stage Race. We begin the weekend with a road race and TT and finish on Sunday with a wide open Circuit race. This race is a great way to begin your fall season of racing. A wonderful venue for the entire family, minutes from the beach and shopping as well as some of the best seafood restaurants in Florida. A fully supported, one-day classic bicycle ride for cyclists of all levels. All new routes for 2011: 34, 70 and 105 miles, most on lightly traveled rural roads. Century has both ocean and St Johns River views, and passes through historic St Augustine.

NFBC 2011 Tour de Forts

This is always one of the great rides of the year, do yourself a favor and check it out.

The North Florida Bicycle Club brings you a classic one-day bicycle event designed for all road cyclists, the 20th annual Tour de Forts. Choose a distance of 18, 30, 62, 75, or 100 miles. Enjoy a wonderful bike ride with pre-ride snacks, rest stops, a post-ride lunch, mechanical support, motorcycle escorts, and roving sags.

On-line registration with complementary T-shirt ends May 2, 2011. Members $30, non-members $45, sign up for membership or renew, and you can register at members price. Late on-line registration without complementary T-shirt ends May 11th. Day-of-ride registration without complementary T-shirt ($55) begins 6:30 AM. Extra T-shirts will be available for $10 each.
